Welcome testers! Thank you for taking the time to evaluate our new interface for MediaWiki. The interface works in very much the same way as text editors you may already know how to use, such as Wordpad or Microsoft Word. We invite you to try out everything this interface can do in the space below. Don't worry if you're not sure about what you're doing! Just start typing and pressing buttons. Anything you do won't break anything permanently, we promise!

If you are using a javascript-blocker, don't forget to enable javascript first!

Below this introduction are some instructions to get you started and a list of things we'd like you to try to do. If you can't figure out how to do them all, that's fine! In fact, if there are things that you can't figure out, that's good for us because it lets us know that there are things we need to improve. Of course, we won't know what you think we need to fix unless you tell us. We ask that everyone fill out our tester feedback questionnaire either during or after the time that you test out our interface. There are no right or wrong answers, so don't worry if you can't answer answer all of the questions; just do the best you can. If you're worried about us having your personal information, you can skip those parts and remain anonymous.

Another way you can let us know about problems is by submitting a bug report. There are some problems that we already know about, and those are listed on the bug report page as well.

[edit] Glossary

  • Article
In wiki-speak, "article" is another word for "page" or "webpage" on a wiki.
  • External link
A link that goes to a webpage that is not on the wiki.
  • Plaintext
For the purpose of our interface, plaintext refers to the article text that shows up in the editor by default. It has no special code that you need to know or use and should appear on the final page in almost exactly the same form as you see it in the editor.
  • Wiki
A type of website such as Wikipedia that lets anyone create and edit its pages. In a wiki, people can write pages together. If one person writes something wrong, then the next person can correct it. The next person can also add something new to the page. Because of this, the page gets better whenever someone changes it.
  • Wikilink
A special kind of link that links to another article on the same wiki.
  • Wikitext
Also called Wiki markup, this is the simple code that is currently used to edit most wikis.

[edit] Things to try

  • Make a change to the existing text(e.g. change/add a word, punctuation)
  • Make a wikilink
  • Make an external link
  • Bold/italicize/strikethrough text
  • Create headings
  • Insert an image
  • Swap between plaintext and wikitext
  • Make a bulleted list
  • Make a numbered list

[edit] Make your edits here

This is some sample text to get you started. Feel free to add anything you want in this section, but remember: on a wiki, not only can everyone see what you've written, but they can change it, too! DO get your feelings hurt if someone changes your edits; it's nothing personal, it's just how wikis work!!

  • a2+b2=c2
  1. i don't think ican break it. so sorry.oh i take that back.
  2. oh. i can't do a section under the 1. that's sad
  • or with the bulleted lists

'

I am a table

so sad. the popup window to edit the table doesn't work. 'Toolbar set 'Wiki' doesn't exist' and it acts wierd when you set a caption.

  • top level
    • second level

ah, i see what you mean -- that's not a particuarly obvious way to do it. Also I can't get firefox's spelling helper thingy to work when I'm editing.
